April 2016 The city between real and imaginary, Marseille, France
Two Mediterranean cities, two different cultures and parallel history, two groups of young generation and, two architects; Egyptian and French Mohamed Gohar and FrédéricRudant, that was the theme of a project organized by CEAlex and Bokrasawa and was carried out between April 2016 and November 2015 in Marseille, France and Alexandria, Egypt.
The dialogue among the two cultures involves engaging the public and capturing the narratives associated with the built heritage, focuses on the past, present, and future. It also highlights the similarities and differences between the cultures of the two cities, creates a channel of communication on an international platform. The project provides wider impacts in contributing to the spread of awareness of the value of our built heritage and building a sense of belonging and national identity.
“During few weeks I was amazed by the cooperation and integration between the young Syrian refugees and the French residents as it amazed me before how the young Alexandrian students introduced their own city in a different and real perspective which should be taken into consideration when they were given the chance of expression. I believe that our big investment should be in our kids.”
